If you guys missed my announcement on Instagram, I am engaged! Looking back on it, I basically planned out the engagement myself and all Jeff had to do was get down on one knee and pop the question LOL…I’ll tell you guys what I mean in a moment when I share how he proposed.
Based on this post, you may have known that we road tripped with my parents, brother, and our three fur babies to California for a wedding (don’t worry, he didn’t propose AT their wedding hehe). On our five day journey, we were busy most of the time whether it was the wedding, visiting relatives, or taking my parents to their favorite Vietnamese spots. Jeff and I knew we had little to no time to take any outfit photos. But being a blogger that I am, I made sure to pack several cute outfits, not only to wear, but in case we had any chances to snap some photos.
On our last night, we finally had some spare time so I rounded up Jeff and my brother for a quick adventure to San Francisco (we were staying in San Mateo). I brought along this red maxi dress that I thought would photograph so beautifully at The Golden Gate Bridge. I’ve never taken couples photos with Jeff before, and because my brother was with us, I thought this would be the perfect time for it. I asked Jeff if he could dress up, which he NEVER does when we take blog photos at home. So when I asked, he’s like “Umm, sure, I guess. Do I need to wear a jacket?” I responded, “Duh, might as well!”
We rushed to San Francisco from San Mateo. We quickly took photos of this outfit first and then drove to The Golden Gate Bridge. I originally wanted to take photos at Spencer Battery park, but when we got there, the parking lot was full. We drove a little further up (about 1/4 of a mile) and found a parking spot with pretty nice views of the bridge. I was in heels and looking at how far Spencer Battery park was, I wanted to stay where we were.
We saw a few people finish taking photos at the bottom of the hill of where we parked. Since they were finishing up, we decided to hop the rope and do the same to get a closer and better view of the bridge. It was around 7:30pm, the wind was blowing, and the sun was starting to set. Jeff started taking some photos of me and trying to find the best photo spot and angle for us. Then he set up the camera for my brother so that all he had to do was press the button.
As Jeff came over, I grabbed his hand (mind you that I’m super anti-PDA hehehe, but it felt right at the time). In my head I’m like, “This would be a great, natural looking photo of the two of us walking towards the bridge.” But as I took a couple of steps forward, Jeff held my left hand and stayed back. Now I’m thinking, “Oh, he must be doing a #followmeto photo.” We do these here and there and I always love them. As I’m patiently waiting for him to get the perfect #followmeto shot, I turned around to see how it was going. The blogger in me likes to check in on the photos to make sure everything looks good.
To my surprise, Jeff was on his knee! I can’t really remember what he said except for, “Will you marry me?” Between being completely shocked and confused, I was like “WHAT?!?! Is this a joke?! No way.” Then after a quick realization that this was real, I said “Yes!!” Again, I’m super anti-PDA but I think this moment deserved some smooches lol! So that’s the story of how he proposed! Of course, we had to take a #followmeto photo after he put a ring on it!
Now looking back at how he proposed, we laugh at how I basically planned out this photoshoot and Jeff used this opportunity to propose hehe. I’m sure not complaining because it was beautiful, funny and so us! If you guys know Jeff, he is a huge planner. He brought the ring on our road trip just in case there was that moment. After seeing what I had planned for us that evening, he spontaneously decided to propose, which is very unlike him but it turned out perfectly! We are so happy and are now starting to plan for our big day. I’m so excited to be sharing this special time with you guys! Here’s the rest of how he proposed in photos!

Congrats and best wishes to you both. What a great opportunity to have your proposal so beautifully documented. My husband proposed to me while we were out horseback riding in the woods. He knew I wanted a romantic proposal, but he hated the idea of getting down on one knee! The horse he was riding passed away a few years ago, but the one I was riding is still with us and I always give him extra treats on our engagement anniversary. While it would have been nice to have photos documenting the moment, it’s just as well we didn’t. We were all dirty and sweaty and I had a massive case of “helmet hair”. 😀
