We officially made it to spring you guys!! I’m kicking off this season with a super cute leopard pleated skirt and coordinating white top! Both of these items are from the Gibson International Women’s Day collection and I’m sharing a very personal story of what this collection means to me.

Gibson pulled in nine bloggers with different backgrounds, shapes, and sizes to create this beautiful spring collection. I got to pick out several items from the Gibson International Women’s Day launch and am loving how this leopard pleated skirt looks with a simple white top. It’s so awesome to see a brand that is supporting women in a diverse way. As a woman of color myself, it’s very refreshing to finally start seeing some representation in fashion and the media. Growing up, I was the only Asian girl in my entire school. I got made fun a lot because of the way I looked and was told so many times to go back my country. I’m first generation Vietnamese American and was born here in the United States.
From elementary school through most of high school, I really hated who I was, my culture, and the way I looked because people treated me so differently. Once I got to college, I finally started to see people who looked like me and, for the first time, felt a sense of belonging. So the significance of seeing other colored women, including my fellow Vietnamese blogger friend, Hoang-Kim from Color & Chic, modeling clothes for this collection and appearing on Nordstrom just brings me so much joy! We still have a long way to go but this is showing me that I do belong and I do matter. I’m now a proud Vietnamese-American and hope to see more brands follow in the same foot steps as Gibson!
In terms of sizing, this leopard pleated skirt is true to size and I’m wearing an XS, which fits a 0-2 (I’m a size 2). I love the print and color of the skirt but wish it had more of a flare. The white top is a great basic top for wearing with jeans or tucked in a skirt. It’s also true to size and I’m wearing a size XS. What are your thoughts on the Gibson International Women’s Day collection and diversity in fashion and media?

What a lovely look!
That leopard skirt is super cute! The pink color is of course gorgeous but the print is my favorite! I agree with you Tina. I wasn’t born here so when my family migrated to the US there was a lot of challenges for us. My parents being called names and my brother and I just struggling with other kids at school. I am glad to hear about Gibson and how it is featuring other women of color and culture. So happy to see you and Hoang Kim be a part of this collaboration.
