No Sew DIY Dragon Dog Costume and Daenerys Targaryen

Halloween is just around the corner and I’m excited to share this no sew DIY dragon dog costume that I made last year! I was a huge fan of Game of Thrones (except for the last season…anyone else with me?!), and having three dogs, my husband and I always joked around about how I was the Mother of Dragons. So naturally, for the last season of the series, I had to create this Halloween dragon dog costume for my three pups!

I even repurposed my reception wedding dress to be the oh-so-fabulous Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons! This was all super fun to put together! Follow the instructions below to recreate this no sew DIY dragon dog costume and get tips for my DIY Daenerys Targaryen Halloween costume!

What You’ll Need:

• Scissors
• Cardboard
• Black Marker
• Pliers/Wire Cutters
• Wire Coat Hanger (one for each dog)
• Hot Glue Gun
• Iron
• Black Felt
• Black Velcro
• Fusible Interfacing
• Stitch Witchery

Instructions for No Sew DIY Dragon Dog Costume

Step 1: Draw a dragon wing pattern on cardboard with a black marker. Cut out the cardboard with scissors. This will be used as your template for all of the dragon wings.

Step 2: Using the cardboard template, cut out the dragon wing pattern on black felt. Flip the template on unused black felt and cut a mirrored dragon wing. You’ll need two sets of mirrored wings for each dog.

Step 3: Cut fusible interfacing slightly smaller than the black felt wings, one for each set of wings.

Step 4: Cut Stitch Witchery pieces and place them on top of the fusible interfacing. Place one set of wings together (with fusible interfacing and Stitch Witchery in between) and iron them together. The Stitch Witchery ensures everything sticks together!

Step 5: Cut additional black felt to create additional dragon wing designs like below.

Step 6: Using pliers, cut and bend the wire coat hanger for the wings like shown below, ensuring it fits your dog’s back accordingly.

Step 7: Position the hanger on top of the felt dragon wings and hot glue them together. Then hot glue the wing pattern on top. Your wings are done!

Step 8: To make the harness, cut and measure two long pieces of black felt to fit one around your dog’s neck and one for around the belly.

Step 9: Hot glue the neck and belly black felt pieces to the remaining exposed wire section of the wings. Hot glue black velcro pieces at the ends of the black felt. These will be used to secure the completed dragon wings on your pups!

This was such a fun DIY dragon dog costume to make and you don’t need to know how to sew! Aren’t they the most ferocious and monstrous dragons you’ve ever seen? Be prepared as they invade and burn Westeros! lol

For my Mother of Dragons costume, I bought this blonde wig. Then I repurposed my wedding dress to complete my Deanarys Targaryen look! If you don’t have a similar white wedding dress, these gowns here and here will work perfectly as well. For the final touch, I wore this statement necklace that made the look edgier. Now I’m ready to take over King’s Landing and slay some white walkers with my dragons! lol Happy Halloween!!!!
