Decorating gingerbread houses is a tradition we love and what better way to enjoy it than having a gingerbread house decorating party with your friends and their kids too! Here’s how to throw a gingerbread house decorating party!
I’m all about making things easier when having a party so I bought pre-built gingerbread houses. They cost a little more but this saves a lot of prep and set-up time. Totally worth it in my opinion, plus, they won’t collapse! Be sure to unpack all of the gingerbread houses and candies ahead of time. There’s a ton of packaging to unwrap and you won’t want to do it when guests are there.
The pre-built gingerbread houses come with assorted candy already but I bought some extra sweets and decorations like this holiday treat topper set. I also got these cute Christmas snowmen and tree sour candies as well as gingerbread men Peeps. The kids can enjoy these treats and get a sugar rush while decorating their gingerbread houses! Not a recipe for disaster right? lol
I set up individual gingerbread house decorating stations. Each station had a pre-built gingerbread house, icing, and candy. For next time, I wish I had a plate under the gingerbread houses to catch any candy or decorations that fall off. At the end of the gingerbread house decorating party, have saran wrap on hand so that the gingerbread houses can be wrapped up and brought home mess-free.
To really drive the gingerbread theme home, I used these DIY Christmas village jars I made as centerpieces for the dining table. I also loved tying red velvet bows to each chair and putting up garland in the dining room. It’s the little festive touches that bring everything together!
If you want to be extra, these gingerbread cookie aprons would be adorable as favors for the kiddos, or these gingerbread mugs for the parents! I actually ordered some of the gingerbread aprons but they were enormous on a two-year-old so I returned them. Maybe next time!
