I am so excited to be sharing our small guest bedroom makeover with BEHR Paint! I have never shared this room before, but it was time it got a refresh. With a baby on the way, my parents will be staying with us to help out so the least we can do is make this guest bedroom beautiful and serene for them. It’s one of the smaller rooms in the house so we simply painted the entire room Smoky White (BWC-13) from the NEW BEHR® Color Trends 2021 Palette to make it instantly look bigger and brighter!

BEHR Paint just released their Color Trends 2021 Palette, featuring 21 on-trend, approachable colors for DIYers and designers. Myself and 20 other creators have been working with BEHR Paint behind-the-scenes to showcase each of these hues in our homes. I specifically chose Smoky White (BWC-13) to refresh our small guest bedroom because it’s such a soft and serene color and really sets a peaceful vibe for the room. My parents will need it with a constant crying baby lol!

For this small guest bedroom makeover, we used Smoky White in BEHR MARQUEEⓇ Interior in Eggshell. One thing we absolutely loved about this paint is that it only took us one coat to complete the room. Being able to finish this project with just one coat saved us a ton of time and money! You can now get this color, and all of the BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette hues at The Home Depot in stores nationwide, and decor and housewares through a convenient online shopping experience!
5 Painting Tips
Here are 5 painting tips I want to share that were helpful for when we painted this small guest bedroom. They would also work in any interior room in the house!
- Prepare your walls. If you have any nail holes, you’ll want to cover them with spackle. With dents, use dry wall compound to make your wall flush and sand as necessary. Then, wipe down the walls so that they’re clean and will absorb the paint better!
- Remove light switch and outlet covers. Some people paint around the covers but it’s easy to get paint on these. We always take the extra few minutes to take off the covers to ensure a clean look!
- Tape all of the trim. It can be time consuming but taping the trim is a crucial step to ensuring you have clean, beautiful paint lines!
- Get high quality paint supplies. High quality paint supplies make a huge difference. Here are the painting supplies you’ll need: paint, paint roller, paint roller extension, wooden paint stir stick, paint tape, paint tray, drop cloths, paint brush, and wet rag (to quickly wipe up any mistakes or dropped paint).
- Cover / remove furniture. Since this guest bedroom is small, we removed all furniture to make it easier to move around and paint. It also helps ensure we don’t accidentally get any paint on the furniture.

After we finished painting this small guest bedroom with Smoky White from top to bottom (including the ceiling), it was time to restyle the room. I got these new mid century modern nightstands from The Home Depot. I love the cognac color that contrasts against the gray headboard but is still neutral and calming. I finished the rest of the room with fluffy pillows, a cozy throw, faux plants, picture frames, and gold table lamps.
While many think of ‘home improvement’ when thinking of The Home Depot, they offer so much more – including interior furniture, wall décor, housewares, tableware and even cookware and small electrics! It was my first time buying furniture there and I had no idea they had such a huge online selection! It was delivered to me with free shipping within a week.
What do you think of the before and after of this small guest bedroom makeover and the Smoky White paint color? I hope my parents will love this room! They are currently quarantining and waiting for the arrival of baby so I can’t wait to show them when baby comes in a couple of weeks!

It turned out so good Tina. Your parents or any other guest will feel so at home in that room that it may be hard for them to leave! Heck, I would want to hang in out there considering at how comfy and beautiful it looks. We also use BEHR paint. My hubby loves Home Depot and they seriously have everything. It’s rare that the hubby comes home empty handed when visiting that store!

The wall color looks great. Would you say it’s a warm color with yellow or cooler with grey undertones? Do you think it would work with orangy/gold wood trim? Thanks!
Oh wow!! I love how a room can change with only painting it in another color. This pale pink looks fantastic! and I really like the changes in the deco too 😉
