As you all can tell, I have been quite MIA from the blog these past few months. Not only am I in full wedding planning mode, one of my bridesmaid is getting married just one month before me! To say it’s been busy around here is an understatement but I’m excited to finally get some content back on the blog! Today, I want to share with you Nina’s tropical bridal shower that myself and two other friends hosted at my house!
TROPICAL BRIDAL SHOWER DECORATIONS
Our lovely bride spent the first decade of her life living in Honolulu, Hawaii so a tropical bridal shower was super important to her. For decorations, we welcomed Nina and her guests with a letter board that says ‘ALOHA’ and some colorful leis.
For the main dessert table, we bought gold aloha balloons and this tropical party decorations package, which came with palm leaves, tropical toothpicks, and Hawaiian flowers. I taped the back of the palm leaves and framed the leaves around the balloons, which made the perfect photo backdrop. Using the flowers, we taped them on champagne flutes to create a tropical mimosa bar.
How fun are these small flamingo thank you bags? We stuffed them with Taiwanese pineapple cake (also a nod to the bride’s Taiwanese roots) and flavorful Hi-Chew candies. We love that these thank you bags can be re-used for storing jewelry as well!
ONO GRINDZ – FOOD + DRINKS
In true Hawaiian fashion, we couldn’t host this tropical bridal shower without ono grindz (delicious eats in Pidgin). We catered broke da mouth beef, chicken long rice, Hawaiian fried rice, cole slaw, and lots of mac salad from Kauai Family Restaurant! The other two hosts and I also made homemade spam musubi, which were all gone by the end of the night! Yum!
We also ordered the Rainbow cake from Cakes of Paradise, which specializes in tropical flavored cakes and is where the bride is getting her wedding cake from! The Rainbow cake has three tasty layers of strawberry, lime & orange cake with guava, lime and passionfruit in between – soooo moist and delicious!!
Next to the Rainbow cake, we showcased some fruit platters we made with pineapple, strawberries and watermelons. One of the hosts even made a parrot with pineapple – how creative, right?!
Lastly, for drinks, I made this fun tropical mimosa bar with loads of champagne, orange juice, and berries. Like I mentioned above, we taped Hawaiian flowers to these champagne flutes for a true tropical bridal shower! I also made the mimosa sign that says “Pour some bubble, add some juice, top with fruit, cheers!”
GAMES + PRIZES
Now on to the naughty bridal shower games that were hilarious and so fun! The first tropical bridal shower game we played involved string, bananas, and oranges. We split into four teams of four, and the objective of the game was to get the orange to the finish line using the dangling banana tied to our waists. We essentially had to thrust our hips to get the banana to roll the orange to the finish line. In relay fashion, once the first person gets to the finish line, she will cut off her banana string to hand her banana over to the next team until all team members cross the finish line. We could not stop laughing! The winning team members each received a can of spam and a $5 Starbucks gift card!
The second naughty bridal shower game involved a cucumber. In a game similar to musical chairs, the objective of the game is to be the last woman standing with the cucumber between your legs. Everyone had to pass the cucumber with their knees to the next person, and when the music stops and you still have the cucumber, then you’re out. Imagine what passing the cucumber looks like when there are only two players left LOL!
The bride said that the tropical bridal shower exceeded her expectations and we all had a blast! From the bride’s own words, “It was such an amazing evening with delicious food and drinks, with even better company! Big thanks again to Tina, Tiffany and Cindy for planning a very memorable bridal shower <3”
MY OUTFIT
Finally, here’s a quick shot of what I wore to Nina’s tropical bridal shower! Gibson sent me this halter neck dress and I knew it would be perfect for the occasion. I love the pretty tropical print with the navy, turquoise and pink colors! It fits true to size and I’m wearing an XS.
