Getting to Gold Creek Pond
After sharing our vision for our winter formal engagement photos, our photographers, Sam and Sola, suggested that we shoot at Gold Creek Pond. Neither Jeff nor I have been there, but Sam and Sola reassured us that it would be gorgeous. They were right – the view was breathtaking and it had everything we wanted from the snowy mountains to the frozen pond and beautiful trees! The best part was that we didn’t have to hike up a mountain. It did require a 15 minute walk in the snow to get to this spot, but it was an easy, flat pathway – just be sure to wear snow boots. I wore these Marc Fisher boots under my engagement dress!
Gold Creek Pond is about 40 minutes east of Seattle, easily accessible off of I-90 (exit 54). During the winter months, you’ll need to purchase a Northwest Forest Pass for parking, and I recommend checking the road conditions to see if it’s safe to drive here. We saw a lot of snowshoers here too so I would love to come back for that!
Gold Creek Pond is a very popular photo shoot location all year long. My friend and fellow blogger, Grace from Tiny Cup of Cake, also took her engagement photos here during the fall time. The gorgeous fall leaves also make such a stunning backdrop! You can check out a couple of her engagement photos here.
Engagement Shoot
Everyone keeps asking if I was cold during this engagement shoot, and the answer is, “HECK YES,” I was freeeezing! To make it worse, I was incredibly sick so it was just terrible timing! We couldn’t change the shoot date since we were going to be out of town the following two weeks and needed the photos right away for our save the date.
Nonetheless, when you have talented photographers like Sam and Sola, they make you not look cold at all! They kept us moving and trying different poses to take the coldness off our minds. I also brought hot water and I would put on my coat in between shots. Overall, Jeff and I had so much fun with Sam and Sola and the photos turned out amazing!
When preparing for this engagement photo shoot, Sam and Sola suggested that we bring some props to get different shots. Juniper Rose Studio graciously offered to create this stunning blush bouquet for me. It matched my dress perfectly and definitely made our photos extra special! Of course, we also brought along a champagne bottle to pop. The above photo became our save the date photo since it was so fitting for our card that says, “Let’s Party!”
Engagement Dress
As I was envisioning our winter formal engagement photos, I knew I wanted it to be dramatic by wearing a beautiful engagement gown. I scoured the internet, but everything I liked was so expensive and I wasn’t willing to spend hundreds of dollars on it. I randomly decided to look on Amazon and found this gorgeous engagement dress that had free Prime shipping AND free returns. The biggest surprise was the price. Guess how much it was??
Only $80!!!! I was so happy to find such an awesome deal for an engagement dress that looks way more expensive than it is! It comes in 7 other colors too. I ordered a bunch of different colors and sizes and ended up keeping the Dusty Pink in a Size 2. I didn’t alter it and it surprisingly fit so well – true to size!
That’s it for our winter formal engagement photos! Which one is your favorite? After this snowy shoot, we also changed into casual outfits so I’ll share those photos with you guys shortly! You can check out our other rainy engagement photos here as well!

Stunning photos and beautiful dress. I like that the dress is more of a spring color against the wintry backdrop. I don’t envy you being out in the snow though. I could never have toughed that out. You make me wish I had done an engagement shoot.
