How To Wear A Poncho Sweater

Poncho sweater, suede booties, cute fall outfit, petite fashion blogSuede booties, quilted crossbody, cute fall outfit, petite fashion blogPoncho sweater, suede booties, cute fall outfit, petite fashion blogPoncho sweater, suede booties, cute fall outfit, petite fashion blogjustatinabit-calson-poncho-sweater-rebecca-minkoff-love-crossbody-cute-fall-outfit-petite-fashion-blog-7Poncho sweater, suede booties, cute fall outfit, petite fashion blogA poncho sweater is one of the comfiest pieces for fall. Growing up, I remember wearing ponchos (and I mean those thin plastic ones) mostly on thriller water rides. Jurassic Park Ride, anyone? I’m glad I’ve evolved from those cheap plastic ones to more classic and stylish poncho sweaters (although I still love water rides)!

So how to wear a poncho sweater? I’ve seen a lot of other bloggers wear long sleeve shirts underneath them. You can really play with patterns and colors that way. Pick a pink striped top or a polka dot top to add something fun and quirky. For me, it was actually was not too cold that day (we broke records for having the warmest November recently – 65 degrees!) so I just wore a white tee shirt underneath for extra comfort. On the bottom, stick with something slim to balance out the top. I would definitely go with skinny jeans or leggings.

Poncho sweaters will make you feel like you’re wearing the coziest blanket, but they can also make you feel frumpy. To avoid this, there are a few solutions that can help:

  • A poncho sweater can come in one size fits all or varying sizes. If you’re ever not sure about one size fits all (it’s really hit or miss for me), look for a poncho sweater that has sizes so that it’s more tailored to your body.
  • A poncho sweater can also be overwhelming. Try slightly tucking the front of your sweater into your jeans or belting it to create some shape.
  • A poncho sweater can make you feel short if you’re petite like me. Pair it with tall suede booties, heeled over the knee boots, or classic pumps to create the illusion of longer legs.

I hope these tips are helpful for finding that perfect poncho sweater! It looks like mine is already sold out (except in curve sizes) so I’ve found other stylish poncho sweaters below!

That poncho sweater looks so chic on you! I love the way it flows and hangs. I also think you did a great job at playing with the proportions of this piece, and sticking with pieces that are more slimming and lengthen your body for the rest of the outfit. I’m glad you’re still managing to take photos at this time of year and that the weather is working in your favor. Have a great rest of the week, Tina!
