Last weekend, we celebrated Amelia’s 100 days or “baek-il”, an important milestone celebration in Korean culture. It was full of delicious Korean food, Korean traditional dresses (hanbok), and dessert. I also can’t believe I don’t have a newborn anymore!
We are so happy that halmoni and haraboji (Korean grandma and grandpa) were able to join in on the celebration this time. They flew in from California for it and it was their first time meeting Amelia! For Olivia’s 100 days two years ago, it was during Covid times so they weren’t able to meet her until she was 1.5 years old. We kept this 100 days Korean celebration low-key and “small” with only family and a few friends. But, my side of the family is 30 people deep so it’s probably not your average small celebration lol.
For our baek-il table decorations, we rented from 8.blossom again but a different set this time. I liked that this set was more modern with the gold pedestals for displaying Korean rice cakes and a few traditional elements like the Korean table, yarn cake (to symbolize longevity), and wrapped boxes. I also added my own gold vases with flowers from Costco.
To complete the baek-il decorations, we made this lovely peachy pink balloon garland to tie everything together. It was my first time buying double-layered balloons! It kit costs more but it looks much more professional and the balloons feel high quality. We used our electric balloon blower to blow up the medium and large balloons, and the mini ones must be blown up with a hand pump which is included in the balloon garland kit!
No baek-il table is complete without dessert! I ordered this gorgeous two-tiered cake from Lil Cakery. She did an amazing job with the Korean design! You also must have Korean rice cake or “tteok”. They are usually square-shaped and look like the ones at Olivia’s party. But pink_n_rice can make these flower designs and they are just stunning! For both bakers, I shared what color scheme I was going for and they nailed it perfectly!
Babies in hanboks are the cutest and Amelia is wearing this beautiful beige baby hanbok that we rented from 8.blossom. She looks so stinking adorable!! Halmoni also gifted Olivia a brand new hanbok and she looks like Korean royalty. We kept telling her that she looked like a Korean princess! Halmoni, Jeff, and I also put on our hanboks from our wedding tea ceremony to take pics – I love them!
I’m so glad we were able to celebrate this 100 day baek-il milestone for Amelia and have many of our family members join in on the party this time. Happy 100 days Amelia – we love you so so much!
