I still can’t believe I haven’t had a denim jacket since high school. Ever since AG sent me one for this post, I just want to layer it with every single outfit. It’s seriously an awesome layering piece for spring through fall. I’ve totally been missing out on this wardrobe staple all of these years! Because I’ve been wearing mine so much, I wanted to share tips on how to wear a denim jacket. Here are four combinations that are effortless and fool proof!
DENIM JACKET + DRESS
One of my favorite ways to style a denim jacket is to pair it with a dress. You can wear it with literally any dress you want whether it’s white lace, floral printed, or a solid color. You can also wear it with dresses that are maxi, midi, or short length! Not only does it add dimension to your outfit (the power of layering!), it’s perfect for a tina bit of warmth on a chilly day/night. I also like that a denim jacket allows you to wear any dress to work. For instance, I could never wear this white lace dress to work with an open back on its own. But if I keep this denim jacket on all day, no one would ever know that this dress is revealing! Other outfit examples here and here.

DENIM JACKET + STRIPES + BLACK / WHITE DENIM
Another way for how to wear a denim jacket is to style it with stripes, black/white denim, or both together! Have fun with a colorful striped top or be safe with a classic white and navy striped one. You can also wear a denim jacket with a striped dress – I’ve seen people tie their jackets around their waist to add shape to the outfit!
Similar to how regular jeans always look good with a white or black top, black or white jeans always look good with a denim jacket! If you’re ever on the run, this outfit combination is timeless and a great casual pairing. In the photos below, I’m wearing my denim jacket with black jeans for a super casual look that would be great for traveling too. Go for white jeans for a brighter, summery feel! I know I’ve only talked about how to wear a denim jacket in casual outfits so far. However, you can wear it with dressier items too! I love the mix of something dressy or frilly, like a lace or tulle skirt, with something masculine and casual. The outcome is always refreshing and chic!
