How to Pack Lightly for a Hot-Weather Trip

justatinabit-polka-dot-and-skirt
justatinabit-polka-dot-and-skirt
justatinabit-red-shorts-on-beach
Outfit 1: Top: J.Crew // Skirt: Lush via Nordstrom BP // Shoes: Dolce Vita // Crossbody: Tory Burch
Outfit 2: Top: Topshop // Shorts: Nordstrom Rack // Flip-flops: Havaianas // Necklace: Forever 21

Here are two other outfits from Puerto Vallarta! In my last post, I mentioned that I was able to pack everything in one carry-on suitcase for a five day vacation (kinda crazy, right?). So I thought I would share some tips on how to pack lightly for a hot-weather / tropical vacation!

  • Plan out your outfits in advance so that you know exactly what you are going to wear and how each item will be used.  This will help you with not over-packing and it makes getting dressed each day easy and efficient.
  • Pack mostly light items like flowy tops and tees, cardigans, skirts, and dresses if possible.  Jeans and coats are too bulky and hopefully you won’t need them on your sunny vacation!
  • Bring neutral-colored shoes.  We all know that shoes always take up so much room, but since neutral colors go with practically everything, you won’t need to pack as many (I know, it’s going to be hard to leave those pretty colorful/printed shoes that you love, but you can thank me later when you save on the check-in luggage fee).  Don’t forget to grab your flip-flops for walking around the beach!
  • Minimize your accessorizing.  When it’s hot and humid, you’re not going to want to wear a lot of jewelry/accessories since it’s just going to feel clunky and heavy.  Try sticking with delicate necklaces, a sun hat, and of course, sunglasses!

Oh gosh, I am the worst at this. I am an over-packer to the max. I'm that girl in the airport that is going through her suitcase at check-in taking things out because it weighs too much, lol.

Planning my outfits out helps a little, but I'm so indecisive that I always like to make sure I have extra choices. Minimizing accessories has helped a lot, along with packing only essential pairs of shoes that I know I'll wear.

As much as I travel I should have this packing thing down by now, sad to say – nope lol.

Great tips, I do try to plan things out but I end up either leaving it for the last minute or spending hours packing, unpacking and repacking particular items because I can't make my mind up. I'd rather take more than I need because I end up using pieces I didn't think I would but of course by that stage my suitcase is overflowing. Sigh.
